Clare Valley
The continental weather of the Clare Valley
The Clare Valley is widely known as one of the oldest wine producing regions. It is located in the South Australia state in the mid north. It is a country side that has amicable people loyal to their traditions.
The climate in the Clare Valley is moderately continental. The summers are characterized by dry weather having hot temperatures during the day. The interesting thing to know however is the fact that the nights during summer are actually cool. This is mainly because of the high altitude of the region thus you get a hot day with a cool night making it one of the best places to be at during summer.
The cool night temperatures do not benefit the people only. One of the types of wines produced in the Clare Valley is the Riesling wine made using the Riesling white grapes. The grapes grown in Clare Valley are of very good quality .The hot daytime temperatures and cool nights contribute to this because it makes the grapes mature slowly ensuring they that they ripen evenly. The other kinds of grapes also grown here, the red color species like the Cabernet Sauvignon, also point to the effect of the micro climate found in the Valley. The dry summers also seem to have an advantage. The dry conditions keep fungal diseases at bay, maximizing on crop yield. However the down side of this is that it becomes necessary to irrigate so that crops do not dry out.
The winter has cooler weather. The days become cooler and the nights become cold. It also rains during this season. The season usually spreads out through the months of June to September having rainfall that averagely amounts to six hundred and thirty millimeters.
Which ever way the Clare Valley makes a beautiful gateway that is full of many attractive features the weather being one of them.
