The climate of Southern Flinders Ranges

The Flinders Ranges is one of the regions in South Australia. It is located to the north of the Clare Valley and has the Spencer Gulf to its west. The weather conditions of the Flinders Ranges are largely influenced by the areas that surround it. For example it experiences maritime influence from the Spencer Gulf and the winds blowing from the Gulf Saint Vincent.
Maritime climate is the type of climate found in areas close to water bodies. The climate found in these areas shares some of the characteristics of both the Mediterranean and continental climates.

To understand the climate you first look at the characteristics of the Mediterranean climate which have a hot dry summer with cool and wet summers. Continental weather consists of summers that have some moderate rainfall and winters that are sufficiently cold for some annual snow fall.  The Maritime climate have warm as opposed to hot summers. The summers also experience some rainfall every now and then although it can not be quantified as being much. The winters are also not too cold.

The weather in the Flinders Ranges can be summarized as warm and dry. Because of this the animals you are bound to find in this region are the ones adapted to semi arid weather conditions. The region does not have a coastline and therefore has no white beaches to lie around on. This however is compensated by the presence of the two Gulfs that bring in water mention earlier on. The place allows one to explore the flora and fauna found in the ranges. There are many semi desert species of plants growing in the ranges. In the evenings you will be able to see most of the animals that live in this range as they come out to go to the water holes. Some of these animals include kangaroos, foxes and even insectivorous bats.
